Chewton Challenge – Sun 25 August

MFR are hosting a Vic Series Event on the iconic Chewton Diggings map. Come and explore this amazing area of gold mining on courses set by an absolute course setting dream team (James Robertson and Jayne Sales). All ages and experience levels welcome – with coaching available for newcomers!

Melbourne Forest Racers welcomes orienteering back to Chewton Diggings! The event will take place in the beautiful Box Iron Bark forest in Chewton which is part of the Castlemaine Heritage park. The forest in August may well be bursting with colour from the wattles, orchids and other native flora which abound. The terrain is gully-spur with extensive gold mining detail across most of the map. Courses finish in some mature pine forest coupes as well as some young pine forest coupes to add variety and enjoyment. There are courses to suit the beginner orienteer through to the experienced orienteer!

If you’re new to orienteering – we recommend trying one of the shorter easy or moderate courses (you can always head back out for a bit of one of the hard courses afterwards if you get the hang of it quickly). Orienteering Victoria has put together some fantastic info on what to expect and what to bring to your first bush event, available here. Please also reach out to us (mfracers@gmail.com) if you’ve got any questions before trying your first event.

Castlemaine township is only minutes away. With its galleries, vintage shops, numerous cafes and other delights it is a day to mark in your calendars not to be missed. Entry through Eventor is preferred (especially for existing members) however, some entry on the day is available for newcomers.
