Come along and enjoy orienteering in another beautiful Melbourne parkland. Small remnants of indigenous vegetation and natural rock features jutt out of the creek with olive groves and wizened mulberry trees nearby. It is a lovely place to orienteer. There are plenty of places to have a picnic after your run and some great cafes nearby.
Bush coaching day - Chewton
All welcome! Come along whether it’s your first time on a bush map or you’ve competed at World Champs (or anything in between).
There will be courses and coaching to develop your skills whatever level you’re at. Choose from beginners, moderate or advanced courses (make your best guess when entering – there will be some flexibility to change on the day).
For beginners, we’ll head out as a group first to get the hang of reading and navigating by contours and getting familiar with the other features of a bush map.
Starting at the Garfield Waterwheel at Chewton.
Time: meet at 10:15am, ready to run by 10:30am. Finishing off with a very short mass start race to put it all into practice before lunch!
Cost: Free for MFR members and all juniors. $10 for others.
Please enter via Eventor to reserve a map.
Make a weekend of it and follow up the next day with the Maxi race (collect as many controls as you can in 1.5 or 3 hours) – perfect chance to put your skills into practice! Just the other side of the road in Chewton, and you can even camp overnight at the Maxi arena!
